The Childcare facility is purpose built and is housed in the SureStart Cauldwell building on the Nursery School site.
Staff from both settings work closely together ensuring shared philosophy and practice. We provide quality childcare and education in a relaxed, homely environment.
- For babies and children aged 6 weeks - 5 years old
- Open from 8am – 6pm, 48 weeks of the year
- Full day and part day sessions

A quote from a parent
The open plan space is divided into age appropriate areas:
0-2s
In our baby & tweenie areas there are lots of lights, colours, and textures. There is a milk kitchen for heating bottles & food, and a designated sleep area equipped with cots & sleep mats where children can rest & sleep whenever they are tired.
2-5s
In our toddler and preschool areas there are sand & water trays, book corners, role play areas and painting & drawing easels.
Gardens & outside play area
Outside we have enclosed gardens & a courtyard. In the warmer weather the doors in the toddler and preschool areas remain open for most of the day and the children are able to access the outside space as they choose. Within the gardens there is climbing apparatus, climb-in sand pits, digging & planting troughs, a playhouse & covered patio area. There are also bikes, trikes & scooters, balls, hoops and beanbags for the children to play with.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage which takes account of children’s individual developmental needs.
Policy and practice is consistent across the full age
range (0-5years).

Keycarers
You can be confident that we will nurture & support your child as they grow. They will be assigned to a team of keycarers who will establish how to support your child’s individual needs most effectively by working with you to create a care plan. The care plan will include all sorts of information such as their sleep pattern, favourite games, allergies etc. Your child’s assigned keyperson will update their care plan as it changes.
At the end of each session one of your child’s keycarers should be there to tell you all about their day. Babies, tweenies and toddlers have a daily report sheet to take home so you can read about activities they have enjoyed, how much they have eaten, what time they had nappy changes etc.
Your child will have their own portfolio for observations, artwork and photos, so you can share all their ‘best bits’! Your child’s keyperson will continually add to their portfolio and when your child leaves it will be yours to keep.

Mealtimes
Breakfast, lunch & tea
Breakfast is served between 8-8:30am. Children choose from a selection of cereals and toast. A freshly prepared 2 course lunch is served at 12pm. A high-tea is served at 4pm. Water and milk are offered to drink and the weekly lunch and tea menus are displayed in the kitchen.
Snacks
Healthy snacks are offered mid-morning and afternoon. A water bottle will be labelled for your child to help themselves to throughout the day. Bottles are labelled with their name and photo.
Weaning babies (under 1 year old) / Special diets (medical/religious)
We serve baby rice/rusks, boiled vegetables & fruit for babies under 12 months old, and we cater for special diets due to religious/medical reasons with a doctors note.

Discounts
In-ward discount*
As part of the Neighbourhood Nursery initiative, if you live within the Cauldwell or Kingsbrook wards of Bedford you will receive 10% discount on your fees.
Sibling discount
If you have 2 or more children attending the Centre you will receive 10% discount on your eldest child’s Centre fees.
Workplace discount*
As part of Bedford Borough Council, Peter Pan offers Beds Borough Council employees a 10% discount on their fees.
Holiday discount
If you book holiday of a full week, your fees for your holiday period will be reduced by 50% (minimum of 2 weeks notice required).
We do not charge for bank holidays.
Government funded sessions
Up to five 2½ hour ‘free sessions’ a week, available to all children the term after their 3rd birthday (term time only). The government funding for the ‘free hours’ will be deducted from the cost of your sessional fees.
Childcare vouchers
We accept childcare vouchers as part payment of fees. These are available from your employer, saving you on the amount of tax and national insurance contributions you pay on your wages.
Family tax credit & working tax credit
Please Contact Citizens Advice about your entitlements. Alternatively, if you live within Cauldwell/Kingbrook, the SureStart benefits advisor will be able to discuss with you your eligibility. Please ask at the SureStart reception desk to make an appointment.
* If you live within Cauldwell/Kingsbrook and work for Bedford Boroug Council a single 10% discount applies. |

To register your child
If you would like to come and have a look around the Centre, or if you have any questions, please call us and speak to our Co-ordinator or our Deputy Co-ordinator who will be happy to help.
If you would like to register your child for a place, please call and request a registration pack. Once you have completed and returned your enrolment form and signed the conditions of registration form, we will write to you to offer you a place (subject to session availability).
